This series draws on found imagery rooted in history by reimagining and recreating some of the earliest panoramic photographs taken of the American West. Using physical manipulations like cutting or collaging and then rendering these landscapes by hand is a labor of love, a way to reimagine the Western landscape, and a tool for investigating historical documentation.
These works consider ideologies pertaining to the American West and bring up questions of ownership, stewardship and conservation. By deconstructing and reconstructing the traditional landscape and utilizing mise en abyme as a visual and conceptual technique, this series encourages viewers to contemplate the fractured “whole” and self-reflexive nature of these drawings.
