QUICK RESPONSE:

“Quick Response” is an ongoing exploration of my artwork and it’s interactions with online A.I tools such as chatGPT, Starryai, and DALL-E.

As a devotee of realism and of visual documentation, I rely heavily on (and believe strongly in) the role of human mind, hand and eye as they relate to the creative process. Along with many other artists, I have recently been thinking a lot about the increasing prevalence of AI in the creative sphere, and how it may begin to redefine, limit, or challenge entirely what it is that I do with my hands. Because my work is primarily concerned with history and ephemera such as old newspapers and photographs, the paradoxes of visual documentation, reproduction, and the act of slow looking at drawings as physical objects in the digital age are ever-present in my process and practice.

The accumulation of text/images here on this page is my way of thinking through the complexities, provocations and contradictions that AI poses to my artistic practice. It’s an amalgamation of ideas and images that I’m certain will grow and evolve as I continue to contend with them.

“This image appears to be a graphite drawing, featuring a serene and detailed landscape in black and white. The composition consists of overlapping, rectangular frames, each capturing a different segment of a picturesque natural scene. The elements within these frames include tranquil lakes, mountainous backgrounds, dense forests, and clear skies.

The overall arrangement gives a layered, collage-like effect, presenting multiple perspectives of the landscape simultaneously. The intricate details and shading showcase the artist’s skill in capturing the textures and depth of the natural environment.”
